♥ Whoa! Did I read that right?! ♥

Yes you did!

The difference a week can make ;]

Here are some shots of my best friend, Aubrey, that I took on February 13th:

And this, my friends, is what I did this past Sunday, February 21st:

Oh the joys of living in South Carolina – where the weather changes more often than most people change their socks ;]

Love love love to my internet friends. Here’s to a sunny week!

♥ Guess what I get to do this weekend?! ♥

babysit!

:]

er, dog-sit….

Nope. Nevermind. The first one was perfect :]
This is Bailey.
Bailey belongs to my co-worker, Kim.
Bailey is softly “bark. bark. bark.” ing at me right now because I’m not paying enough attention to him.

FAQs

I am working on adding a frequently asked questions page on my website… Until then, I figured this would do :]

If you have any questions you’d like for me to add on here – please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email or post your question here in the “comments” section.

How long will our shoot last?
Basically, until we both feel like we’ve gotten the shots you want! Shoots can last anywhere from an hour to two and half… I’m flexible and understanding. Especially when it comes to photographing babies and children. I understand that people get fussy when they’re hungry or tired (hey! It happens to me, too!) so please don’t feel bad if we have to take a little “break” to ensure everyone is as happy as possible so that your pictures turn out extraordinary.

What should I wear?
I think I get this question more than any other. And it’s an easy answer.
Wear whatever makes you feel great.
Be comfortable. If you’re comfortable and feel good about what you’re wearing – it will show. Don’t worry about matching – instead think coordinating. Similar styles/complimentary colors photograph beautifully together. Typically, solid colors photograph better than busy prints but again, if you feel your best wearing a boldly patterned dress or shirt – wear it!
{Here is an example for you – please excuse the quickly put together collage!}

Why is lifestyle photography so expensive when I can go to the mall and get “studio pictures” for $24.99?
Another great question. This is a question that I so badly want to answer for anyone curious as to why lifestyle photography is so expensive.
My job is not just a job to me. You are not paying me to get the lighting right and snap away right when your child has the perfect smile on his or her face.
You are paying me for our time of shooting, plus hours worth of editing so that I can create timeless art for you and your home.
Nothing saddens me more than handing over a disc of your edited images and seeing them printed out at your local discount or drug store.
Your photos will not be given the justice that I am envisioning when I capture the moment as well as when I’m editing the final image.
My hope is that you will treasure your images for what they are - pieces of art. I love seeing an image that I’ve captured of a moment in time when you and your family are being just that – a family. No fake smiles or cheesy poses. Just personalities and love and joy and happiness.
And when you have an image such as that made into a canvas and hung on your wall? I get butterflies because of how beautiful each family looks as art.
And these are images that will last forever. Shouldn’t they be go so much deeper and be worth more than a mass $24.99 picture package?

How long after my shoot will my images be ready?
Typically anywhere from 1-3 weeks. May and June are the busiest times and the months for the most weddings – so expect processing to take a bit longer than usual.
I try my best to keep you updated on my progress and I will always send you a few “samples” so that you aren’t completely dying from lack of seeing your beautiful works of art! ;]
Wedding processing takes longer and ranges from 2-4 weeks.

The Smith Family ♥

I have been terrible about blogging sessions as soon as they’re done being processed. So please, dear cyber friends, forgive me :]
Two and a half weeks ago I did a shoot for the Smith family. Anne and I had been in touch for a little while
and we both had been keeping our fingers crossed for a sunny day but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
We did the shoot anyways, despite the rainy/yucky day and just stayed inside.
Anne and Bradley’s house has a lot of natural light – so it worked out (don’t you just love a happy ending?!) ;]
I am already looking forward to our shoot this summer… and I can already see the green grass and smell the gorgeous flowers.
Sigh. Please tell me it’s spring already!

Baby Mac is the cutest. He was such a sport throughout everything and I must say – quite the photogenic little man.
Anne, Bradley, and Mac – I had a blast and all three of you are precious.
I can’t wait to watch Mac grow and get even more adorable (if that’s even possible!) :]
Internet friends – enjoy:

Can you even handle these baby blues??

Love these two. You can tell Mac already has his mama wrapped around those little fingers ;]

Mac’s nursery is adorable! I had to get his name in at least a few shots…

THOSE EYES! This is probably my favorite of the day.

And then… we had bathtime! I have never seen a child so happy as Mac was in the tub! I love this shot:

On his parents bed :]

A sweet family portrait:

And of course I had to get some shots of Anne and Bradley…
By the way, Anne – I’m calling you before my next paint job to find out the exact color of your dining room!

Sweetness…

And because blog posts aren’t fun without pictures:
We have had gloomy, gloomy weather here in Greenville lately. Sometimes I let the weather affect me much more than it should.
The other day, I let my puppies out in the back yard just as it was starting to sprinkle. I sighed and silently cursed the yuckiness of the day.
And then I looked up. I saw this tree and was instantly amazed at how beautiful it was. And creepy. I loved it.
I grabbed my camera and snapped this before I went back inside and then you know what I did?
I forgot about it.
Until today, that is. And when I saw it on my camera – it made me smile all over again at the reminder of beauty being found in the yuckiness.
I think that’s a good thing to be reminded of.

Elizabeth & John ~ A Downtown Engagement Shoot.

Elizabeth and John look like they were made for each other… It doesn’t hurt that they’re beautiful enough to be models, either ;]
Anyone within a one foot radius would be able to see how in love these two are. It is so adorable!
We decided to meet in downtown Greenville for their engagement shoot (I can’t wait to shoot their wedding in May!)
and unfortunately for us, it turned into a nasty, rainy, COLD day. Ick!
Once we started shooting, I don’t think any of us noticed the weather.
Elizabeth has a contagious laugh and an amazing smile! It seriously felt like there was sunshine due to her sweet personality and hers and John’s sweet relationship.
Sigh… Don’t you just love LOVE?
I do :]
And so does my camera…

Gotta get that bling! ;]

A glow-y portrait:

Love this:

Same bench. B&W :]

I was feeling generous with this post ;]

Sweetness…

john - I wish we could have had you for our engagement shots! Wait a minute...February 2, 2010 - 11:14 pm

thievery.

Rae - That's funny cause even Annie Leibovitz said she took from what she saw in other people's photos, learned and got ideas from other phtographers. I get so tired of photographers who act as if they invented the camera and every pose and location on earth. Ok so that's my rant. Lovely quote! ~RaeFebruary 2, 2010 - 11:39 pm

Jessica - rachel - i love this quote! your work is so original and beautiful... you can definitely tell it's inspired. keep it up! i love checking your site for my own inspiration. hugs.January 27, 2010 - 11:33 am

:~:love grows:~:

Well, after much thought and many conversations with a few mom’s, mom-to-be’s, and some photographer input –
I have decided to offer my first package dedicated to the joy and excitement of new babies :]
It is so crazy to me that just as a photographer, I have already gotten to experience the miracle of watching a baby change in only a few short months. Babies grow so fast – and their personalities develop and mature just as quickly. What better way to see the changes than a photography package completely customized for the biggest visual changes in your precious little one. Without further ado:

{The “Love Grows” package}

Maternity Shoot
Newborn Shoot {up to ten days old for the most “new” feel}
3 month old shoot
6 month old shoot
1 year old shoot

Each shoot includes your edited images on a high resolution CD

Package price is $900 {a savings of $350}

A hand designed photo book can be added to your package to include your favorite shots from each shoot for an additional (reasonable) fee.

Please contact me if you or someone you know is interested in this type of package. If you know you’re going to want these shoots anyway, why not go ahead and save some green by choosing the package ;]

xoxo,
rachel

I miss the north already…

My brother (despite what following photo may depict) and his wife Tracey are beautiful,
sweet, loving people with amazing sense of humors ;]
And when it comes to making beautiful babies? Yeah. They pretty much take the cake.

Although I may be partial (even though I know I’m just plain right)… I have the most beautiful neice in the entire world.

Dear Madison Joy,
I love you more than you will ever know. I love you so much it’s like a dull ache in my heart.
That means there’s a lot of love in there.
You are already so beautiful and you haven’t even uttered a sentence. I can’t imagine how beautiful you’re going to become.
You are such a joy and I am so happy that Jesus gave you such great parents who happen to be related to me.
He  must have known I was going to need a pretty girl to model for me on my silly, spur-of-the-moment photography endeavors  :]
Not to mention the countless sleepovers and shopping trips we shall have…
And don’t worry – I will be your coolest aunt (shhhh – don’t tell the others)
Stay sweet, little lovely. You have a whole big family who will always be here for you.
And you can count on your Aunt Rachel for anything.
I love you with everything inside me.
xoxo, auntie

Ben - She is so precious! So weird that Nate is a Dad... soon to be x2. heheFebruary 2, 2010 - 11:31 pm
